Today, as Europe’s largest producer of eucalyptus-based pulp, Navigator brings together its heritage, reliability, versatility and commitment to sustainability under a single identity, unlocking the full potential of eucalyptus fibre across a wide range of applications.
The gCELL story
The gCELL story begins at Navigator’s Cacia mill, in Aveiro. There, in 1956, a small team achieved what had never been done before: the industrial production of kraft pulp from Eucalyptus globulus, a project internally known as TE-24.
This breakthrough changed the course of the pulp and paper industry. It opened the door to large-scale eucalyptus kraft pulp production and to the development of high-quality papers made from 100% eucalyptus fibre. It also revealed the remarkable versatility of this raw material, paving the way for future applications.
Seven decades later, that same pioneering spirit is at the core of gCELL.
The name gCELL reflects both the origin and essence of the brand.
The “g” stands for globulus, the fibre behind our guarantee of performance, reliability and versatility.
“CELL” represents both the smallest unit of life and cellulose, the foundation of a wide range of high-quality products and sustainable end uses.

gCELL fibres are sourced from sustainably managed forests, certified by FSC® (FSC® – C008924) and PEFC (PEFC/13-32-001). Navigator has committed to cutting direct CO₂ emissions by 86% by 2035 and is consistently recognised among the top global performers in forestry for ESG risk management.
